Our Golden Years & End of Life Options

Golden years residence image

Most of us want to live out our golden years in our own homes.

When we think about our golden years we think we’ll live the rest of our days in our own home. However, what if that’s not an option? Have you had conversations with your family about your wishes for your final years? What if something happens and what you wanted is no longer an option? What if the option you decided on no longer fits your needs?

This episode is a conversation between two caregiver support podcasters. We discuss all aspects of living out our golden years the way we want and in a way that is safe and healthy. Additionally, we talk about many of the things families need to consider when discussing golden years’ living arrangements.

Few people take on caregiving for a family member fully knowing how the disease will progress. What seems manageable in the initial years gradually becomes a lot more than most people can handle. There is much to consider and we attempt to discuss all aspects as much as possible.

eFamily Care image

Using a digital platform to make caring better is the solution most caregivers need.

Are you caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or another challenging disease? Does the knowledge that you have to get them to a doctor fill you with dread? Have you said, on more than one occasion that what you really need is someone to come to you?

Having abruptly entered a phase of “safer at home” more and more medical professionals are offering telemedicine. However, that’s only useful for some health care situations. There’s a lot more involved in providing care – is there a solution for those situations?

Thankfully, now there are more options for care every day! Enter eFamily Care the digital platform connects family caregivers to elder Care Advisers. These advisors coach them on caring for their aging loved ones, helping to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations.

eFamilyCare provides family caregivers with ongoing support with a personal care adviser.  Not only can your medical organization white label our platform, but you can also white label our Care Advisers.  Their account managers work with medical providers to help achieve the best outcomes for everyone. In the event that you have medical questions that need quick answers, this may be the ideal solution.  Providing help at your fingertips their goal is to ease some of your caregiving challenges.

Technology For Better Caregiving

Technology for better caregiving

Using technology for better caregiving might allow your loved one to remain in their home.

Is it possible to use technology for better caregiving?  Most of our loved ones make it very well known that they want to continue to live in their home until the end. That’s easier said than done especially if you’re one of the millions of sandwich generation caregivers with a full-time job and a family. How do you juggle everything and keep everyone happy?

On this episode, I talk to a Neena from the UK about how she used technology to better care for her Dad. She’s an only child with a full-time job and a family of her own. Her Dad was able to safely stay in his own home for six years.

Avoiding Memory Care/Staying in Your Home

Handling Alzheimer’s at home is possible

Most people want to stay in their homes. How do we make that happen?

Staying home is how most people want to live out their life. When Alzheimer’s becomes a part of your life you’ll likely hear, more often than you care to, that this is probably not possible.

For adult children caregivers, this may be the case, but for spouses, it may be possible to care for someone living with Alzheimer’s at home longer than you’d expect. Each year they don’t have to go into an assisted living memory care residence is another year you have together. It’s also another year you’re not spending your retirement on their care.

How do some people manage to care for someone until the end? What tips and suggestions can we try? Can we really care for someone at home without losing our own minds?

This episode is a conversation with Rosayls Peele, the author of Mike & Me. She talks with me about how she managed to care for her husband at home.
